With two delicious sides, this half chicken was a wholesome meal that tasted great. (Rochester Voice photo)

ROCHESTER - Mitchell Hill BBQ may have been caught off guard when barbecue fans from all over the Seacoast overwhelmed their downtown Rochester eatery when they opened in November, but during our Thursday night visit this week, they were a well-oiled machine with awesome wait staff and extremely reasonable wait times.

And we haven't even got to the barbecue yet, which comes out hot, crazily tender and juicy and like any fine BBQ, falls off the bone.

We got the half chicken, which comes out in one piece, which we liked because tearing off a thigh or a drumstick like a caveman is pure sweetness.

We also like that there are plenty of paper towels on the tables and you eat off paper plates, because it gives you that back yard home feel.

Our chicken was so good we were both eating the skin, what a sin, which we just don't do at home.

Our sides of cole slaw and baked beans were absolutely sinful, especially the cole slaw which was the perfect flavor and consistency to balance their signature sweet and smoky barbecue sauce, which we poured on with no shame.

Martha had a wine, which I don't understand, and I had a 16-oz Bud Lite draft that was just $3.

Now we're both looking forward to going back and slowly and methodically working our way through the entire menu.
