Bay State man gets hurt, DWI in Spaulding crash

Staff reports

DOVER - A single-car crash today on the Spaulding Turnpike resulted in a Bay State man being injured and later charged with drunken driving.

State Police say the crash occurred when a 2001 Honda Accord, driven by John J. Labo, 27, of Marshfield, was traveling north at a high rate of speed, lost control on a curve and crashed into the guardrail separating north and southbound lanes around 3 a.m.

The vehicle rolled over the guardrail and landed on its roof on the southbound side of the roadway.

Labo was transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital, where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

He was later arrested and charged with DWI and transportation of a controlled drug.

One lane on the southbound side of Route 16 was shut down for approximately one hour while the crash was investigated and the vehicle removed. Traffic continued to flow during the investigation and cleanup.

Although police believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, this incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is being asked to contact Trooper John Forbes, New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A, at (603) 223-8490.
