Belmont man charged in assault of elderly parents

CONCORD - A Belmont man is accused of second-degree assault and criminal restraint against his elderly parents.

Nathaniel Kay, 42, of Belmont, is charged in the offenses of Oct. 14 against his elderly mother and father.

The second-degree assault indictment alleges Kay recklessly caused a traumatic brain injury to his mom by striking her in the head.

The criminal restraint indictments allege Kay knowingly and unlawfully confined both parents with a rope under circumstances "exposing them to a risk of serious bodily injury."

Kay has also been charged with three class A misdemeanor charges of simple assault when on the same day when he allegedly pushed his mom and pushed his dad while striking him in the head.

Class B felonies are punishable by up to 3 ½ to 7 years in the New Hampshire State Prison and a fine of up to $4,000.00. Class A misdemeanors are punishable by up to 12 months in the House of Corrections and a fine of up to $2,000.00.

An arraignment is scheduled in Belknap County Superior Court on Feb. 27.
