Berwick woman found unconscious in Friday fire dies

BERWICK, Maine - A Berwick woman badly injured Friday when her house caught fire has died, the State Fire Marshal’s Office released on Monday.

Rebecca Galleshaw, 63, died Sunday at Mass General Hospital in Boston. 

Firefighters found her unconscious in bed Friday morning after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from her First Street house.

Galleshaw, who lived alone, was being treated for severe smoke inhalation after initially being transported to Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H. 

Fire Investigators said the fire started in the basement from electrical wiring.

It is the first fire death in Maine this year.
