CONCORD - Governor Chris Sununu on Monday railed against last week's executive order by President Biden to force employers and federal contractors to mandate COVID vaccinations for their workers.
"Instead of working collaboratively with governors across America to increase the vaccination rate, President Biden skips our weekly calls and issues overreaching mandates from Washington," Gov. Sununu said. "I am working directly with my fellow governors to see how best we can push back against this federal overreach."
Biden's new order requires that employers with more than 100 workers mandate them to be vaccinated or tested for the virus every week.
The edict affects about 80 million Americans. In addition the roughly 17 million workers at health facilities that receive federal Medicare or Medicaid also will have to be fully vaccinated.
The Rochester Voice learned on Monday that one longtime registered nurse who worked at an assisted living facility in New Hampshire was recently summarily fired and walked out the door by security after she refusing to be vaccinated by an upcoming fall deadline.
Meanwhile, Biden is also requiring vaccinations for employees of the executive branch and contractors who do business with the federal government with no option to test out, affecting several million more workers.
Biden announced the new requirements last Thursday.
