Body of missing Sanford woman found in woods

SANFORD - Sanford police said Wednesday night that the body of a Sanford woman missing since January has been found.

A Maine Warden Service officer found Kerry M. Rear, 40, around 2 p.m. in a wooded area off Route 109.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death and whether it was suspicious.

Rear was last seen leaving the Lil' Mart convenience store in Sanford on foot Jan. 22.

Sanford police were searching with game wardens when the body was found.

The night she went missing Rear was seen walking without shoes, wet and disoriented when she walked into the store believing she was in a bank. She then left but returned a short time later, again thinking she was at a financial institution.

Soon after her disappearance a special track dog led police to Dover, N.H., where the scent went cold.

The family had offered a $10,000 reward for anyone helping to find her.
