FARMINGTON - The town's school board has placed its superintendent and high school principal on paid leave while outside investigators look into reports that school personnel have failed to follow safety protocols involving student violence.

The action follows the release of a report by Farmington Police that alleges administrators have failed to report simple assaults and in one case terminated a teacher accused of attacking a student who later admitted he lied about the incident.

The police report, which was generated to determine why the turnover on School Resource Officers was so high, also said school administrators had been uncooperative with the SROs and failed to take disciplinary action against students who had committed violent acts.

In one case a student who wielded a hammer against a teacher failed to be disciplined.

The report also states that school administrators were investigating violent incidents that should have been reported to the SROs.
