Brian McCarthy ... enjoyed fried clams, science fiction

ROCHESTER - Brian Joseph McCarthy, 69, of Rochester, died at home on the morning of Thursday, September 3, 2020. He will be missed by his family and friends beyond measure.

Brian was born in Massachusetts and soon after moved to Dover with his family. He grew up on beautiful Dover Point, filling his days with adventures and making memories with his siblings and childhood friends. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School and went on to receive an Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Industrial Electronics from New Hampshire Vocational - Technical College. He moved to Rochester where he raised a family of his own.

Brian had a long and accomplished career as an Electrical Engineer with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the Boston Planning Yard. He was hard working, dedicated and extremely knowledgeable in his work. He was highly respected by his colleagues and NAVSEA. He traveled the world working on the Navy's ships and submarines.

Brian was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed. He was kind, intelligent, thoughtful, and witty. His beautiful blue eyes and smile warmed the heart. Brian enjoyed working on cars and computers. He could fix just about anything. If you knew him, chances are he fixed your computer at least once. He loved music, reading, history, science fiction, travel, lighthouses, corn on the cob, fried clams, peonies, lilacs, a great book or show, and a good thunderstorm. He was the keeper of stories, and he loved to share those stories with others. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He cared for others, whether friend or stranger, and did what he could to make others happy.

He was a fiercely proud and devoted father and grandfather. His love and support was endless; there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his children. Without a doubt, the greatest joys in his life were his grandchildren, Emmett and Cora. He loved them with all his heart. He enjoyed playing with them, teaching them new things and watching them grow and learn. There has never been a more loving and wonderful Grampy.
