Burbak Plastics to begin major move to Spaulding Composites facility this fall

ROCHESTER - Burbak Plastics, which was acquired by Spaulding Composites of Rochester two years ago, will begin the process of relocating to the Lilac City later this year, Spaulding's CEO told The Rochester Voice earlier this month.
The move is expected to begin in in October and be completed by the end of the year.
Burbak Plastics was initially acquired by Spaulding Composites Inc. in August 2017, and the move to Rochester is part of a strategically planned initiative, company officials noted.
"Both Burbak and Spaulding Composites will enjoy the synergy that comes from being under one roof and in the combining of many systems (financial, quality, management, etc.) into one," a statement from the company said.
Spaulding Composites' 100,000 square foot facility on Nadeau Drive off Pickering Road is currently being upgraded to accommodate a modern, climate-controlled facility for the injection molding portion of the business and a larger, more efficient layout of all secondary and material handling operations.
Equipment from Burbak's Wilton plant is being transferred to Spaulding on an ongoing basis to enable a seamless transition, Spaulding CEO Ken Otto said last week.
Otto said everybody at the Wilton facility has been offered a job in Rochester, but he's not sure how many of Burbak's 100 or so employees will decide to make the move.
He expects some Rochester jobs will become available over the fall and winter, but he's not sure how many.
Spaulding Composites, which currently employs 85, has been in business for about 140 years. They manufacture fabricated thermoset composite components for a variety of industries, including grips for handguns, components for pneumatic tools, aircraft components and transmission components for heavy industry trucks and tractors.
Burbak Plastics, a division of Spaulding Composites, provides high-heat thermoplastic components for design critical industries such as military/defense and medical.
