ROCHESTER - Cecilia H. Mainville, of Rochester, and formally of Newburyport, Mass., died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 10, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Cecilia (Ceil) was born November 22, 1923, to Virgilio and Annunziata Soldani in Marlborough, Mass., where she attended St. Anne's Academy and Anna Maria College.
She was an ardent educator serving as a long- term substitute teacher in the greater Newburyport area until retirement in 1991. In special circumstances, she would tutor students, helping them realize their full potential. Deeply religious, she also taught CCD at her home for the Immaculate Conception Church.
Her interests were many, including language, music, history and art. An accomplished artist, her passion was watercolors, entering exhibits and selling many paintings through the Durham Art Association.
However, nothing brought her more joy than to be with family and friends.
She will always be remembered for her kind and gentle smile and compassionate ear.
She is survived by her daughters: Sheila Marquette, husband Skip of Barrington, N.H., and Mary Mainville, partner Misha Galt-Martin of Seattle, Wash.; sons Jerry Mainville and Greg Mainville, wife Mary, all of Amesbury, Mass.; one sister, Anita Phillips of Westborough, Mass.; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husbands Patrick Hartnett and Joseph Mainville, and son Christopher Mainville.
