Chick-fil-A salad was a taste sensation, but ran afoul on the little things

ROCHESTER - There were a few shortcomings with my highly anticipated first Chick-fil-A meal, but with that said, my first bite into their Southwest Salad was a bite to remember.

It may have been their signature southwest salad dressing or their meticulously crafted assemblage of shredded cheese, black beans, corn and premium lettuces that complemented the delicately spiced chicken.

I really don't know or care what it was. What I do know is it was double-take delicious.

The chicken, while tasty as I said, however, seemed to have been reduced to such small pieces the visual was almost disturbing, like it had been put through a grinder one too many times.

Meanwhile, the fries were a tad undercooked, lacked crispiness and should've been hotter.

The sweet tea, another of their own original brands, was a hit with Martha, who said she hadn't had such good tasting sweet tea since leaving Florida.

The prices were a little high, even considering the quality, I thought.

$12 for the salad, with the tea and fries adding another $8 making for a $20 lunch.

I should add that we had plenty enough to feed the both of us, so keep that in mind, too.

Bottom line: The salad was way too good not to be down at the Lilac Mall next Wednesday as I continue to fine-tune my hump day Chick-fil-A favorites.

The Chick-fil-A food truck is at the Lilac Mall every Wednesday for takeout only.
