Childhood trauma of jailed parents explored in movie shown at Community Center

ROCHESTER - The Rochester Police Department's Juvenile Division will be co-hosting the documentary screening of Tre Maison Dasan with the Public Health Network and NH Children's Behavioral Health Collaborative later this month at the Community Center.

The documentary explores the effects of incarceration and the lasting impact it has on children of incarcerated parents.

Tre Maison Dasan explores the childhood of three boys, Tre, Maison and Dasan, whose lives are complicated by having a parent in the prison system. Told through the child's perspective, the film is an exploration of relationships and separation, masculinity and coming of age in America when a parent is behind bars.

Following the screening, a panel discussion between former incarcerated New Hampshire parents and their now-adult children will be held.

Childcare will be provided for children that are school age and older by the Rochester Recreational Department, and light snacks will be available for attendees.

The program runs from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The Rochester Community Center is located at 180 Wakefield St. next to Spaulding High.
