Citizens Police Academy on tap for March

The Rochester Police Department will be holding its fifth annual Citizen's Police Academy starting in March.

Citizens who participate will be exposed to the many functions and layers of their police department through presentations by department employees, hands-on training and ride-a-longs with police officers. This is a chance to learn what a police department "really does".

The Citizen's Academy class will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. for 11 weeks starting on March 8 and concluding on May 17. All participants must be 18 years of age or older at the commencement of the Academy, or 15 years of age or older if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The class is limited to 20 participants and will be conducted on a first come, first served basis, with preference being given to Rochester residents.

Applications and Release of Information Authorization forms are available @ www.rochesterpd.org. Applications can either be mailed or dropped off at the Rochester Police Department. A signature is required on each application. Participants must pass a brief background check to include a criminal record check. The deadline for applications is Feb. 19, 2016.
