City man remains jailed after slew of vehicular charges including reckless driving
Staff reports 9:24 a.m.
ROCHESTER - A Rochester man with a recent history of reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and fleeing from police during traffic stops remains in Strafford County Jail on no bail today. Dakota Rice, 24, just had a brush with the law around 8:50 a.m. on Nov. 24 when officers were dispatched to Shoreyville Plaza on Highland Street regarding a suspicious vehicle. When officers arrived on scene the male, later identified as Rice, was standing at the front of his vehicle. "As the officer pulled into the parking lot and activated his marked patrol vehicle's flashing blue emergency lights, Rice ran to the driver's compartment of his vehicle, got in and tried to drive away by reversing," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said on Wednesday. Moments later Rice complied with the officer's order and got out of the vehicle. Pinkham added that a check of Rice's driver's license revealed his privilege to drive was suspended for Reckless Operation. Further investigation revealed that Rice attached a license plate to his car that was not assigned to to it. He was out on bail at the time on an unrelated charge and was arrested, held on preventative detention and transported to the Strafford County House of Corrections with a court date of Nov. 25 in Rochester District Court. The on Saturday Rice was arrested on an active warrant stemming from an incident back on Oct. 26 when Rice fled from an officer attempting to conduct a traffic stop on Columbus Avenue. In that incident Rice was charged with Reckless Operation, Disobeying an Officer, Driving After Revocation/Suspension, Driving After Revocation/Suspension for Reckless Operation, Misuse of Plates, Unregistered Vehicle, Yellow/Solid Line Violation and Contempt. Rice, who was served the warrant at Strafford County Jail where he was being held on the multiple charges, refused the services of a Bail Commissioner and was scheduled for arraignment at the Rochester District Court on Monday. The most serious charge he faces is a Misdemeanors A, which can result in up to a year in county jail. Rice is currently being held at Strafford County Jail on no bail in connections with four separate Rochester cases and a $300 cash bail out of Portsmouth on another case.
