City water, sewer rates could be going up next month
Harrison Thorp 1:54 p.m. ROCHESTER - Rochester residents could be looking at an increase in water and sewer rates. The City Council will discuss the projected new rates at their Dec. 5 meeting with a public hearing on the matter set for Dec. 19. The current rates are $5.29 per hundred cubic feet for water and $6.52 per hundred cubic feet for sewer. The city's public works department is looking at a possible 5 percent increase for water rates and 3.5 percent increase on the sewer side, according to the city clerk's office. The last rate increase came on Dec 1, 2016. It's estimated that the average bill for a typical homeowner with four people in the household is currently about $212 every three months. No comment on what was prompting the hike was immediately available from city officials today.
