City's September spectacular back with a bang; fair organizers eye statewide reach

ROCHESTER - The intoxicating smell of french fries, sausages, peppers and onions will once again waft over Rochester's fairgrounds this September.

Renamed the Granite State Fair, the city's annual autumn ritual is back with a renewed focus on agriculture, but continuing its commitment to entertainment with longtime attractions like the school bus derby and Circus Hollywood, organizers say.

New to the fair will be the barnyard babies exhibit including chicks, piglets and perhaps a calf or two.

Meanwhile, the fair continues to reach out throughout the county and state to encourage agricultural interests to show both animals and exhibits.

Grandstand shows will include the school bus derbies as well as traditional 4-, 6-, & 8-cylinder demolition derbies.

Also returning to the fair will be the ever popular midway and carnival rides.

Organizers also point out that the Granite State Fair is the only fair that includes daily Circus Hollywood performances featuring aerial shows, acrobatics, exotic animals and more as part of general admission.

The fair is also expanding crafts and other competitive exhibits including vegetables, flowers and photographs.
