ROCHESTER - The Rochester teenager hurt Thursday when his bike was struck by a car on the Route 16 onramp has been upgraded from critical to satisfactory condition, a nursing supervisor at Maine Medical Center said today.

William Stewart, 18, of 6 Jackson St., was riding his mountain bike south on Milton Road and was crossing the Spaulding westbound onramp near Dunkin' Donuts around 4:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 2012 Volkswagen Golf driven by Brandon Roy, 22, of New Durham, N.H. Roy had been traveling northbound on Milton Road prior to the crash.

When first responders arrived Stewart was unconscious lying on the onramp a few feet away from the Volkwagen.

Stewart was flown by DHART helicopter to the Portland hospital. Roy was unharmed.

The Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.

Neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors at this time, police say.
