Conway drowning victim identified as Bedford man

CONWAY - The man who drowned Saturday while trying to help a swimmer in distress at Conway's Echo Lake has been identified as a Bedford resident.
Safety officials say the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. when Vinod Varadharajan, 37, tried to assist another swimmer, went underwater and did not resurface.
Varadharajan was quickly located by others on scene and brought to shore where CPR was performed. Emergency crews transported him to Memorial Hospital in Conway where he was pronounced deceased.
Responding agencies included New Hampshire State Police-Marine Patrol and NHSP Troop E, Conway Police Department, Conway Fire Department, and Echo Lake State Park personnel.
