FARMINGTON - Some Farmington residents who are on town water may be noticing a slight yellowish color in their tap water today, but personnel at the town's Water and Wastewater Department say it is safe to drink and will go away completely in a few days as they do a complete system flush.

The problem is tannic acid, which is caused by pine needles and leaves, the employee said, adding the discoloration produces no taste or smell and is safe to drink.

He said there is no need for the 2,500 users of town water to boil the water or take any other precautions.

"This usually happens every other year and when it does, people don't it, but we'll have it cleared up within the next few days," he said.
