Dog hit continues to mend at vets; owner identified

ROCHESTER - The Jack Russell terrier hit by a car on Milton Road on Sunday night continued his recovery on Monday at a local veterinary clinic, where staff awaited the appearance of its owner to claim the pooch.

Rochester Police said on Monday the matter was really out of their hands now.

"Now it's just up to the owner to go to the vets," said Rochester Capt. Gary Boudreau.

The owner was identified on Monday and notified his dog was at the vets. The dog had no identification or microchip when police found it Sunday night after the dog was reported hit.

Boudreau said the dog got hit when it wandered into the road after the owner let it out to go to the bathroom.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday on Milton Road in the area of the Rochester Residence Inn.
The dog received a couple of bumps and bruises but was otherwise OK, police said.
