LIMERICK, Maine - A Limerick man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly selling more than $10,000 in farm equipment that belonged to his father, who had recently become incapacitated due to health problems.

An investigation began earlier in the week when York County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Solomon was patrolling Limerick and noticed some heavy equipment was missing from the father's farm, including a heavy duty logging skidder and an Oliver brand all terrain tractor.

Knowing that that the owner was having health issues, Solomon suspected the property might have been stolen.

He contacted the property owner's daughter who confirmed that the equipment was stolen and suspected her brother may have removed the property without permission.

Solomon interviewed Justin Nichols on Sunday, with Nichols confirming he sold his father's equipment to another farmer in Newfield and that he did not have permission to sell the equipment.

Nichols, 31, has been charged with theft, a class C felony and violating conditions of release. Nichols was on conditions of release due to an earlier arrest for another theft. No bail was allowed so Nichols was remanded to the Alfred Jail pending his video arraignment today.

The equipment is estimated to be worth in excess of $10,000.

Solomon contacted the person who purchased the property and was able to recover the equipment.
