Donald Seavey Sr. ... former air traffic controller, pilot



ROCHESTER - Donald Erwin Seavey, Sr., 83, of Old Dover Road, died Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Born May 23, 1933, in Rochester, N.H., he is the son of the late Carlyle and Esther (Whipple) Seavey.
Donald is a lifelong resident of Rochester, even though his job as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA has taken him all over the United States. Don was active with many organizations such as the NH Grand Lodge of Masons, Humane Lodge #21, Civil Air Patrol, Sky Haven Flying Club, EAA and UFO (United Octogenarians a group of pilots over the age of 80 who still fly).
Members of his family include his wife of almost 59 years, Joan (Bilson) Seavey of Rochester, his son, Donald Seavey Jr., and his wife Donna of Malta, N.Y., his daughter, Denise Preston and her husband Edwin of Sunapee, N.H., his grandchildren; Hannah and Monica, Christopher (Alicia), James and Racheal (Chris) and his six great grandchildren, his sisters; Constance Mann (Thomas) of Rochester and Florence Simonton of Salem, Ore., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Don also leaves his Spruce Creek Board of Directors Aviators from Daytona Beach, Fla.: Forrest, TR, AV, and Gene. These are a group of fellow pilots that meet every morning for coffee and talk about airplanes and world events. The saying in the pilot world is that when one passes on they have "flown west for a final check". Don has "Gone West, not alone into the sunset but into the company of friends who have gone before him."
