DOVER - Two people were taken to the hospital on Friday after a pickup rear-ended a New Hampshire Department of Transportation plow truck on the Spaulding Turnpike in Dover.
The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. near Exit 7 North where a 2026 International Harvester was plowing the left breakdown lane when the pickup, a 2026 Nissan Frontier, struck the back of the plow truck and became wedged underneath.
The driver of the pickup, Michael Willette, 52, of Dover., was briefly entrapped. Emergency crews responded and freed him.
Willette was transported to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The driver of the DOT truck, identified as Luke Marsters, 32, of New Durham, was also taken to the hospital for a precautionary evaluation.
Both lanes of Route 16 North were closed, and traffic was restricted to the right breakdown lane for approximately one hour until both vehicles were towed.
Based on evidence gathered in the preliminary investigation, negligent and distracted driving appear to be causal factors of the crash, however, all aspects remain under investigation. Any witness who has material information to contribute is asked to contact Trooper Philip Sheehy at Philip.J.Sheehy@dos.nh.gov or (603) 223-4381.
