MILTON - The man Medflighted to a Boston hospital following a fiery crash on White Mountain Highway on Monday has died.

Mark Adjutant, 45, of Wakefield, died Monday evening at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Milton Police Chief Richard Krauss confirmed today.

His passenger, Ashley Spinney, 23, also of Wakefield, was treated and released from Frisbie Memorial Hospital with no serious injury, Krauss said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and Krauss said nothing has been ruled out with regards to what may have been the cause.

The pickup truck, a Dodge 1500, appeared to have been heading north towing a flatbed trailer on White Mountain Highway (Route 125) around 11:40 a.m. when it crossed into the southbound lane, went off the road and struck a tree just feet from the sign that signals the entrance to Lockhart Field.

Bystanders said Adjutant was unable to free himself from the car, which smoldered and then became fully involved in flame before firefighters were able to put out the blaze.

Firefighters then worked an extended period of time trying to gingerly remove the victim, who was then rushed to the ballfield behind Milton Elementary School where he was Medflighted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

The roadway was closed down for several hours before being reopened Monday afternoon.

Milton Firefighters and Rescue personnel, Milton, Farmington and Wakefield Police, Frisbie Paramedics and the Strafford County Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.
