Driver charged in Tuesday head-on collision on Rt. 16

ROCHESTER - A head-on collision on Route 16 Tuesday shut down traffic between Rochester and Milton for about an hour and resulted in injury to at least one person.

The accident occurred at 4:18 p.m. just north of Exit 16 in Rochester and involved a Toyota Yaris and a Subaru Impreza, according to a State Police spokesman at the Epping barracks.

According to officials, the Toyota, whose driver is from Center Ossipee, made a sudden lane change colliding head-on with the Subaru, whose driver is from Wolfeboro.

The names of both drivers were not available.

Details of the crash remain sketchy, but the spokesman said he could confirm at least one driver was injured though the extent of their injuries were unclear.

He said he believed the operators were both the lone occupants of their vehicles.

The driver of the Toyota was charged with reckless driving, though the level of charge was not available.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
