Driver dies when rearended in heavy traffic on I-93

SALEM - A massive traffic jam on Interstate 93 near the Massachusetts line on Thursday resulted in the death of one driver who was rearended by another vehicle.

The crash occurred around 4:25 p.m. on I-93 South at mile marker 0.2 where New Hampshire State Trooper came upon a serious crash involving two vehicles: a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and a 2020 Chevrolet Trax.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Hyundai encountered heavy traffic and failed to stop in time and crashed into the Trax.

Members of the Salem Fire Department attempted life saving measures on the Trax' driver, but they were pronounced deceased at the scene.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. The New Hampshire State Police requests anyone with information pertaining to this crash to contact Trooper Madelynn Davis at (603) 451-9782.

No names or hometowns of the motorists involved were released.
