Driver killed in I-93 crash identified as Bay State man

SALEM - The driver who died when he was rear-ended Thursday during a massive traffic jam on Interstate 93 has been identified as a Massachusetts man.

Jermaine Adams, 48, of Haverhill, Mass., died when a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by William Russel, 59, of Merrimack crashed into him near the Massachusetts line.

The crash occurred around 4:25 p.m. on I-93 South at mile marker 0.2.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Hyundai encountered heavy traffic and failed to stop in time.

Members of the Salem Fire Department attempted life saving measures on Adams, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
