ROCHESTER - A Rochester man was arrested for driving under the influence on Wednesday after police say he got into a confrontation with and threatened Dunkin' Donuts staff at their South Main Street store then refused to stop for an officer who attempted to pull him over immediately following the incident.
Police got involved around 7 p.m. when officers were dispatched for a disturbance at the Dunkin Donuts where it was reported a male who had been in the drive-thru lane got out of his Jeep Compass and threatened staff.
According to Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham, the suspect then left the parking lot and was headed toward the Commons when another officer in the area noticed the vehicle.
As the officer turned his cruiser around and attempted a traffic stop the Jeep kept going before pulling into a residence whereupon the driver got out and ran off. Police say the resident who lived there said he did not know the individual.
Just a few minutes later police were called to a residence on Academy Street where the man - who was said to be intoxicated - had run to with the keys to the Jeep, Pinkham said.
Arrested at the scene was Thabiti Hill, 51, of 14 Academy St., #B.
Hill was charged with DUI, disobeying an officer, driving after revocation or suspension and reckless operation, all misdemeanors.
