Elderly city man walking in crosswalk struck by SUV

ROCHESTER - An elderly Rochester man was injured on Monday when he was struck while crossing the street in a crosswalk.

The accident occurred around 7:15 p.m. when police say Donald Emerson, 79, of Rochester, was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on Washington Street and initiated a left turn onto Roy Street where his car struck Paul Durant, 82 who was crossing in the the crosswalk. Durant was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries.

Emerson was summonsed at the scene for failure to yield to a pedestrian, a violation level offense. The investigation remains open at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Officer Powers of the Rochester Police Department at 603-330-7128.
