ROCHESTER - An elderly Maine woman seriously injured in a freak accident on Saturday when a deer knocked her off her motorcycle remains in critical condition today at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Carol Delisle, 80, of Wells, was riding as a passenger behind operator Clifford Wescott, 84, also of Wells, while Westcott was traveling north on Farmington Road between Walmart and Tractor supply when the unthinkable happened.

Rochester police say a deer suddenly emerged from the opposite side of the road and crossed, attempting to leap over the vehicle.

The deer grazed Westcott's helmet, but caught Delisle well enough to pull her right off the Spyder.

Delisle was wearing a helmet, but it became dislodged when the deer struck.

She was Medflighted by Lifeflight of Maine out of Sanford to the Maine Medical Center with undisclosed head injuries.

The deer fled into the woods after the collision and was not located.

Westcott was not injured and was able to leave the scene on the Spyder, which was not damaged.
