PHARR, Texas - Elizabeth (Bette) J. White was born March 15, 1923, to Bill and Minnie Yonker in Philadelphia Pa. She died on Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Pharr, Texas, after a period of failing health.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 57 years George White, and a son Michael. She is survived by her son Richard, daughter in law Peg, and two sisters Doris Price and Ethelyn Yonker both of N.J., and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
She met George when both were in the Coast Guard and stationed at Salem Coast Guard station during World War II.
For many years she was a resident of Manchester by the Sea, Mass., and was very active in Eastern Star being a Worthy Matron of Diana Chapter and a Deputy Grand Matron at the state level. She spent the majority of her life in Milton, N.H., on Nute Ridge. She was very active in local affairs as a member of the Milton Planning Board and a Trustee of the Trust Funds for Milton. She volunteered for many years at the NH Farm Museum and as a Friend of the Milton Free Public Library as Treasurer. She was the recipient of Citizen of the year twice in Milton. She also was active in the Frisbee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, including serving as president.
After the death of her husband she moved to Voorhees, N.J., to be near her sisters and their families. She later moved to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas to be near her son.
She will be missed by her family, and friends in Manchester and Milton.
