SANFORD - Eric "Ric" Allain, 77, died on Aug. 27, 2017, at his Myrtle Beach, S.C., home with his family by his side.
Born in Dover-Foxcroft, Ric lived most of his life in Sanford. Ric gave many years to public service as a town meeting member, chairman of the Sanford School Committee, assistant community civil defense director, president of the Sanford High Athletic Boosters, and a St. Ignatius Parent-Teacher Association board member.
Ric was inducted into the Maine Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1998 for his contributions to the sport of wrestling. He was the founder and director of the Redskin Invitational, one of the most prestigious schoolboy wrestling tournaments in New England. Ric was also the founder of both the Maine Amateur Wrestling Association (MAWA) and its president for 8 years and the Sanford Springvale Youth Athletic Association (SSYAA) and its president for the first eight years. The SSYAA is responsible for introducing thousands of Sanford youth to sports.
Ric is survived by his wife of 59 years, Constance Allain, of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Barbara Boyes, of Myrtle Beach; sons, Jayson Allain, of Dover Foxcroft, Jeffrey Allain, of Amesbury, Mass., Steven Hall, of Fiskdale, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and his sister, Jana West, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eric Allain and Yvette Allain, and brother, Paul Allain.
