ROCHESTER - Evidence collected from the impounded truck thought to have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident almost four weeks ago has been sent to the state crime lab in Concord for analysis, a Rochester Police Captain told The Lebanon Voice today.

"The evidence has all been sent to the state lab," said Rochester Police Capt. Gary Boudreau, adding that there was no strict timetable for results to be sent back.

Meanwhile, the suspect in the case, who police believe was behind the wheel the night of the accident May 7, has yet to be interviewed by Rochester Police, though Boudreau would not comment on whether the suspect in the case was cooperative or not.

Boudreau also would not disclose the exact nature of the evidence, but said it was submitted for analysis within a week of the truck being impounded late in the day May 7 in the area of New York Avenue in Dover.

Jeffrey Howarth, 51, of Rochester, was riding his bicycle when he was fatally struck in the area of the southbound onramp at the intersection of Farmington Road and the Spaulding Turnpike just after midnight.

Police said that the truck would have sustained significant front-end damage including a broken headlight in the crash.

Police said the truck was headed east from Farmington when the collision occurred.
