NEWMARKET - A former Rochester Police Officer finds himself on the wrong side of the law again after his arrest in Newmarket on Saturday in connection with a domestic violence charge out of Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Wayne Perreault, 49, of Old Orchard Beach, was arraigned Monday in Brentwood District Court on a fugitive from justice charge.
He is currently being held at the Rockingham County jail.
Perreault had earlier been arrested in connection with a domestic violence assault in Rochester for allegedly breaking into his ex-wife's locked bedroom in April 2014 and punching her in the jaw when she rebuffed his advances.
In December 2015 a hung jury resulted in an acquittal, but he did plead guilty this spring to trying to get a relative to falsely state certain aspects of the case for which Perreault was sentenced to 90 days in jail, suspended on good behavior.
Calls to the Old Orchard Police Department regarding more specifics of the current case there were not immediately returned.
A York County Superior Court clerk said today that Perreault has a dispositional conference there in February.
Perreault served on the Rochester Police force from 1991-2001. He retired from New Hampshire State Police where he served as a state trooper in 2009.
