Ex-Rochester man gets 26 months for carfentanyl trafficking

John Furber (Police mugshot)

CONCORD - A former Rochester man was sentenced to 26 months in federal prison for possessing quantities of fentanyl and carfentanil with intent to distribute, the U.S. Attorneys Office announced on Monday.

During a vehicle stop in Rochester on March 29, 2017, John Furber, 46, was found in possession of nearly 10 grams of fentanyl, according to court documents and testimony.

Then on April 26, 2017, officers encountered Furber at a hotel in Rochester where he was found with more than nine grams of fentanyl and more than 28 grams of carfentanil, along with some $2,000 in cash.

About a month later Furber was arrested by the U.S. Marshals-led New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force at an apartment in North Conway, where more fentanyl was recovered from the defendant.

Carfentanyl is a synthetic opioid hundreds of times more deadly than heroin or fentanyl.

Furber pleaded guilty to the charges in February. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Furber will forfeit $2,105 in drug proceeds to the United States.
