First coronavirus case reported in New Hampshire

CONCORD - New Hampshire health officials announced today the state's first confirmed case of the coronavirus.

The patient is a member of the Darthmouth Hitchock health system who recently traveled to Italy where a large outbreak has been reported.

The state's chief epidemiologist, Dr. Benjamin Chan, said the patient is suffering only minor symptoms and remains at home in Grafton County.

As of today the CDC reports a total of 43 confirmed or presumptive cases nationwide, 26 of which were community spread, while the other 17 are travel related.

More than 80,000 cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus, have occurred globally. Of those, 3,000 people have died, mostly near Wuhan, China.
