DOVER - Freda Joan (Lucas) Coombs, 93, former of Anita Street in Rochester, died peacefully on Aug. 9, 2016, with her family by her side at Watson Fields Home in Dover, N.H.
Freda was born on July 10, 1923, to Linda Mary Lucas (Seager) and Edwin William Lucas in Wimborne, Dorset, in the United Kingdom, where she grew up with seven brothers.
In 1945, she married Rolvin Everett Coombs of Hampton, N.H., whom she met at a dance in her hometown while he was serving in the U.S. Army. A year later, she came to N.H. as a war bride. Together, Rolvin and Freda raised four daughters in Hampton. During many of those years, Freda worked summers at Hampton Beach in the Renwod gift shop. Freda and Rolvin later moved to Rochester, N.H. Freda was a talented knitter who enjoyed reading historical novels and listening to classical music, a love she shared with her husband.
Freda is predeceased by Rolvin Coombs. She is survived by daughter Susan Gill and husband Andy Gill of Grand Island, N.Y.; daughter Heather Talbot and husband Richard Talbot of Barrington, N.H.; daughter Brenda LaMontagne and husband James LaMontagne of Rochester, N.H.; daughter Gillian Coombs and husband Mark Chilcott of Lee, N.H.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
