Frisbie CEO marks one-year anniversary of acquisition, lists $4.5M in investments

ROCHESTER - HCA Healthcare this month is marking its one-year anniversary of its acquistion of Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

The transition, which was complicated by an unprecedented pandemic, began last March 1 and made the formerly independent hospital the 19th hospital in the HCA Healthcare Capital Division.

The FMH team had to make many adjustments to bring HCA Healthcare technology, tools, and procedures online during the pandemic.

"One unanticipated outcome that came out of the pandemic was the teamwork and forging a bond that would have taken much longer," said FMH CEO Jeff Scionti. "The staff have been amazing. They displayed resiliency through a pandemic, a transition, and changes in the systems they work with to do their jobs. Through that, what we've accomplished has been extraordinary."

In the past year, FMH earned its first ever Joint Commission accreditation, improved patient outcomes by drastically reducing hospital-acquired infections, streamlining the time to takes for patients to get care, and began participation in the HCA NH Transfer Center improving patient access to care.

The team also benefited from the strong financial backing HCA Healthcare provided during a time when many hospitals were struggling and laying off staff. HCA Healthcare supported its colleagues by implementing Pandemic Pay to protect the livelihoods of those whose service lines were negatively impacted by the pandemic, making safety improvements, new staffing policies, creating equity for FMH employees within the New Hampshire healthcare labor market, and other employee support programs that would have been impossible under previous ownership.

"HCA Healthcare is committed to the future of the Rochester community," said Scionti. "We've already initiated invested in capital improvements of $4.5 million for things such as new MRI capability, a pharmacy clean room, and a psychiatric pod at Frisbie Memorial Hospital. We are also committing to bring the facility up to date with over $10.0 million in needed investments such as a new roof, HVAC system, and nurse call system.

Frisbie Memorial Hospital also extended its longstanding commitment to City of Rochester by signing a new a contract to provide EMS services to the community and paid more than $2 million in taxes to the city of Rochester."

"It's been a significant year in the century-long history of this hospital as we set it up for success for many years to come," Scionti said.
