Granite State rock solid for raising a family, study finds

With families looking for a fresh start once the COVID-19 pandemic dies down and moving becomes practical, the personal-finance website WalletHub recently released its report on 2021's Best and Worst States to Raise a Family, which found New Hampshire ranked sixth-best in the nation.

Helping the Granite State to its high ranking was its top spots for lowest infant mortality rate and percentage of families in poverty.

To determine the best states in which to put down family roots, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 52 key indicators of family-friendliness. The data set ranges from the median annual family income to housing affordability to the unemployment rate.

Raising a Family in New Hampshire (1=Best; 25=Avg.):

  • 17th - Child-Care Costs (Adjusted for Median Family Income)
  • 1st - Infant-Mortality Rate
  • 16th - Median Annual Family Income (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
  • 2nd - Violent Crimes per Capita
  • 1st - % of Families in Poverty
  • 27th - Housing Affordability
  • 15th - Unemployment Rate
  • 19th - Separation & Divorce Rate
