ROCHESTER- A ceremonial groundbreaking for the much-anticipated Ridge Marketplace on Route 11 will take place Thursday

Passers-by in recent months and as early as last year would have noticed preliminary site work had already started, but Developer Waterstone Retail chose to mark the highly touted shopping mall's impending construction and completion, which is set for the spring of next year.

When it is finished, the complex will comprise more than 300,000 square feet of shopping space, with a broad mix of retail stores, restaurants and a multiscreen cinema.

There will also be a large outdoor green space for art shows, farmers' markets or children's events, according to a Waterstone press release.

While speculation is keen on what retailers or restaurants might be in the mix, only Marshall's and Petco have committed to having a presence.

Thursday's groundbreaking is set for 10 a.m.
