SOMERSWORTH - James M. McLin, 74, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Rochester, July 28, 1942, the son of Thomas and Eileen (Sullivan) McLin.
He was educated in Somersworth Schools graduating from Somersworth High School Class of 1960.
He had been employed by National Distillers later for the NH State Liquor Store in Rochester and retired from NH Dept. of Homeland Security.
He was involved in local politics from 1976 to 2006 serving as Mayor for 18 consecutive years as well as many elected positions, boards and committees.
He was a huge supporter of Somersworth Sports organizing several fund raisers and was inducted into the Somersworth Sports Hall of Fame as a Contributor. The Remodeled Gym was named in his honor. He received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Somersworth-Berwick Rotary Club and many other awards.
He was founder and first commander of the Somersworth Post 69 Sons of the American Legion.
He was predeceased by a son Brian McLin.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years Joyce (Caron) McLin of Somersworth; a son Timothy McLin and his wife Kelly of Berwick; a daughter Michelle Sylvester of South Carolina; five grandchildren Tom, Kelly, Christy, Jordan and Katie; and three Great-Grandchildren; a sister Donna Turcotte and her husband Pete; nieces and nephews.
