ROCHESTER - Jerome J. Lachance, l, died peacefully Thursday, October 28, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born in Rochester February 17, 1926, the son of Albert and Marianna Lachance and was a lifelong resident of Rochester. He attended Holy Rosary and was a graduate of Spaulding High School class of 1944 and of UNH 1951.
Prior to his retirement he worked as Met Life representative, a teacher, coach, and a US Postal employee. He was inducted into the Rochester Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. Jerry was a lifelong member of many local organizations including the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Elks, and Victory Club.
A tremendous athlete playing baseball, football, and basketball at Spaulding and baseball at UNH. He was also a member of the Allain's Jewelry Baseball team that traveled to Omaha for the national semipro championship. After his playing days, he continued his involvement in local sports by coaching Rochester Post 7 Legion Baseball, refereeing basketball and football, and working as a scorekeeper and statistician for Spaulding Baseball. Jerry also played Santa Claus for the American Legion children's Christmas Party for over 20 years.
He married the love of his life Virginia Worster in September 1948. They raised six children. Surviving members of the family include Jerome J. Lachance II, Susan Brown, Stephen Lachance and his wife Anita, of Rochester, Michele Kimball and her husband Gerry of Lebanon, Maine, Eric Lachance and his wife Anita, of Rochester and Virginia Peabody and her husband Chuck of Orlando, Florida; daughter-in-law Deborah Lachance of Rochester, 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren: sister-in laws Lois Worster and Florence Worster and many nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Annette, and brothers Albert, Victor, George, Bernard, John and his granddaughter Rebecca Brown. He was the last of the Magnificent 7. His legacy carries on.
