ACTON, Maine - Lizards, tarantulas and snakes, oh my.
They were all on hand for a fun and educational adventure Saturday at the Acton Library where Mr. Drew and His Animals Too put on a show that had both youngsters and adults squealing with cringe-worthy delight.
Some of the biggest screams came when Mr. Drew popped a couple of live cockroaches into his mouth, kept them in there a bit only to spit out the live critters back into his hand.
"Yeah, a lot of animals love these guys," he quipped. "Crunchy on the outside, creamy in the middle."
But the two that elicited the most frenzied apprehension may have been the tarantula and scorpion, which were both described as very timid creatures that rarely bite humans or cause death if they do.

He also noted that if you held a tarantula in your hand and dropped it on the floor it would shatter like fine china.
One of the most endearing and popular creatures Mr. Drew brought along was Creature, an Argentine black and white Tegu lizard.
Tegus are hunted for their skin and when you feel its skin, it feels like a soft basketball or football, pleasing and dry to the touch. Creature walked lazily around the library floor allowing any and all to stroke his handsome self while testing the crowd's mood with his ever-protruding tongue every few seconds.
Mr. Drew and His Animals Too is located in Lewiston. His shows are put on throughout Maine.
Other animals presented included a Maine snapping turtle, giant tortoise, boa constrictor and python.
