Lebanon man, company indicted in fatal accident

A Lebanon man and company have been indicted in connection with an accident in Sanford that killed a teenage skateboarder last summer.

Mark Stuart, 52, of 30 Sandpiper Lane, was indicted by a York County grand jury on Tuesday on a charge of manslaughter, a Class A felony.

According to a press release last July from the Sanford Police Department, the accident occurred at the intersection of Nason and Lebanon streets when 15-year-old Corey Cabana was crossing the street on his skateboard and was hit by a truck.

Cabana was taken to Goodall Hospital and later airlifted to Maine Med where he succumbed to his injuries.

An article in the Portland Press Herald shortly after the accident did not release the name of the truck driver, but identified him as being from Sanford.

A separate manslaughter indictment is listed against Stuart, Torno and Stuart Inc., indicating it was likely Stuart was driving a company truck the day of the tragedy.

Stuart, Torno and Stuart is a well-known Lebanon business. The company primarily operates in the site preparation contractors industry, according to findthecompany.com. Mark T. Stuart is listed as the company president.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that a grand jury has found sufficient evidence to move forward with a trial.
