YORK, Maine - A Lebanon man has been indicted in a burglary and theft case that occurred in Lebanon last year.

Matthew Thompson, 39, of 54 Heath Road, stands charged with burglary, theft and violation of bail in connection with a Sept. 27 incident.

The most serious charges are the burglary and theft counts, both Class C felonies that can draw up to a five-year-prison sentence and $5,000 fines.

Thompson was also charged last May with theft of a storage shed from a Pork Street property.

In that incident police say a neighbor of the Pork Street address noticed three men working to dislodge the shed and apparently prepare it for transport on a wooden slab.

The neighbor didn't believe the men were authorized to be there, so they texted the former property owner, who said no one should be on the property.

When State Police were notified a trooper arrived on scene to find the 25-foot-long shed blocking half of Heath Road. It appeared the three men were preparing to drag it into the woods using a John Deere tractor. One of the suspects said they owned an acre behind a dirt path and that the shed owner had said he could have it.

The trooper then contacted the owner, who said that wasn't the case.

The most current York County grand jury indictments were handed down on Feb. 5 and released on Wednesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
