PORTLAND, Maine – A week after he fell while shoveling snow from the roof of his Lebanon home, Dr. Paul Basko remains in critical condition inside a Maine Medical Center intensive care unit, a Maine Med nursing supervisor said on Saturday.

Basko, a well-respected and liked chiropractor who practices in Springvale, Maine, fell last Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22.

He underwent surgery at Maine Medical Center on Tuesday to treat injuries sustained in the fall.

According to a Fall Road neighbor who didn’t want to be identified, Basko may have been injured when his ladder slipped on snow or ice. The neighbor said they believed Basko may have lain in the snow injured for a period of time last Saturday before being found by family members.

The exact nature of Basko's injuries have not been released, but some type of back or neck injury is suspected.

A family member on Wednesday at the Basco residence said they thought he was responding well to the surgery.
