LEBANON - The Board of Selectmen will meet with Planning Board members tonight to discuss a possible Marijuana Moratorium.

Planning Board member Paul Philbrick is expected to present selectmen with the Planning Board's decision that urges the town to adopt the Maine Municipal Association's ordinance that would restrict commercial marijuana activity within the town.

On Thursday board members discussed the need to expedite a decision by selectmen in order for the town to schedule a town-wide vote, possibly in the spring.

Earlier this month Gov. Paul LePage signed a proclamation verifying the results of a November ballot question that allowed Mainers to be able to legally possess and grow the drug Jan. 30.

However, rules for retail marijuana sales won't be in place for several months since legislators still have to iron out details of how and where those outlets will operate.

Under the new law, adults 21 can possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana or grow up to six plants.

Commercial sale of the drug will be regulated by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

The Board of Selectmen meeting begins at 3 p.m., with the Marijuana Moratorium discussion set as the last item of business on a lengthy agenda.
