ROCHESTER – What good is sitting, alone in your room?  Life is a cabaret, ole’ chum, so come to the Cabaret!

Liza Minnelli sang that in the blockbuster film ‘Cabaret’ following an epic Broadway run, but Rochester area fans cay can see the next best thing on stage this weekend and next at The Governor’s Inn, during a dinner theater event.

‘Life is a Cabaret’ is the Inn’s Broadway revue featuring songs from Chicago and Cabaret, as well as other sexy and sultry show tunes from Nine, City of Angels, Crazy for You, Jekyll & Hyde, Damn Yankees, Gypsy, and more.

The Governor’s Ballroom will make for an intimate setting to enjoy this show, according to Director Seraphina Caliguire, because it will be done cabaret-style, with the cast connecting to the audience, making guests feel part of the experience.

The show is sexy, gritty, and seamless, says Caliguire.  “The songs are toe tapping and the vocals are insanely strong,” she added.  “I needed a spectacular cast to be able to sing, act, and dance … and I ended up with completely amazing actors that have blown me away!”

The cast includes Linette Miles, who toured with ‘A Chorus Line’ and has been featured in numerous Seacoast area productions, Alden Caple – just finishing his run of Shrek as Shrek at the Rochester Opera House – who heads the Portsmouth High School Musical Theatre program and teaches dance to local students, Chelsea Hermann who has been a long time seacoast area performer, and Joshua Moore, who is no stranger to the Regional Theatre circuit around the United States.  Director Caliguire herself stars in the show, belting out the show’s title tune in an amazing way.   She not only sounds like Liza Minnelli, she looks the part as well.

‘Life is a Cabaret’s live music is led by musical director Kathy Fink, and the revue includes some of the original choreography from Chicago as it was on Broadway, as well as original choreography from the director.   The performance at The Governor’s Inn will be presented as a grand dinner show, with hors oeuvres upon arrival followed by salad and a main course of sirloin steak and chicken, with dessert and coffee served during intermission.

Show nights for Life is a Cabaret are November 9, 15 and 16. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with hors douerves.  Tickets are $39.95, including the four-course dinner, tax, and gratuity. Visit www.governorsinn.com or call 332-0107 for tickets or more information.
