MILTON - Three Ponds Resort, the owner of Mi-Te-Jo Campground, has applied to the town to expand its number of campsites by about 75 percent.

According to the project narrative included in their town application for a "Special Exception," the owner wants to add 173 new campsites within two separate areas of the expansion property.

One, called the East Area in submitted documents, is located along the existing campground entrance road from Townhouse Road and would comprise 118 new campsites with three-way hookups. A new entrance would also be built about 650 feet in from Townhouse. Amenities in this east side area would include a new comfort station, bath house and covered pavilion and playground.

The west area would comprise 35 campsites with three-way hookups and 20 tent sites with just water and electric.

Amenities in this area would include a remote parking area for the tent sites and two comfort station bath houses. Additional planned amenities would also include a bath house with café, pools, mini-golf and other features to be used by the entire campground.

Arguments for the expansion within the application note that the abutter setbacks exceed those required within the zoning district, that the nearest home to a proposed site is more than 250 feet away and that the proposed use is an expansion to the existing use.

The application was submitted on Aug. 9.

Three Ponds Resort is owned by Northgate Resorts, which manages 11 campsites nationwide.

Milton Planning Board officials were not immediately available for comment.
