CONCORD - A Madison man who also maintains a Massachusetts residence pleaded guilty on Friday to felony voting in more than one state.

Charles Eugene Cartier Jr., 81, admitted to knowingly checking in at the checklist in Madison and casting a New Hampshire ballot after having already cast a ballot in the same election year in Massachusetts during the 2016 General Election.

Cartier, who also voted in the town of Attleboro, Mass., was sentenced to 60 days at the House of Corrections, all suspended for one year on the condition of his good behavior. The court also ordered Cartier pay a $1,000 fine with a penalty assessment of $240.

As a consequence of Cartier's election law conviction, his right to vote in New Hampshire is terminated.

Assistant Attorney General Nicholas Chong Yen, of the Election Law Unit, and Associate Attorney General James Boffetti prosecuted this case along with Chief Investigator Richard Tracy.
